Red Lobia, commonly known in Pakistan as Laal Lobia, is a variety of black-eyed pea (Vigna unguiculata) distinguished by its kidney shape, creamy texture, and distinctive red husk with a black 'eye'. A versatile and protein-rich legume, it is a staple in Pakistani home cooking, valued for its quick cooking time and ability to absorb rich flavors. This product is sourced from local cultivation, cleaned, and supplied directly from the pulse markets of Zabzi Mandi Burewala.
Key Features & Benefits
Features a distinctive maroon-red skin and a tender, buttery interior. Key benefits include a shorter soaking and cooking time compared to many other dried beans, excellent absorption of spices and broth, and a high yield upon cooking. It provides a hearty, satisfying texture in both vegetarian and meat-based dishes.
Composition
100% whole, dried red black-eyed peas, with no additives or preservatives. The product is cleaned and sorted, but retains its natural skin and characteristic pigmentation, which may slightly tint cooking water.
Calories & Nutrition
Per 40-gram uncooked serving (approx. ΒΌ cup): approximately 130-140 calories. It is an excellent source of plant-based protein (approx. 9 grams per serving), complex carbohydrates, and dietary fiber. It is rich in folate, iron, potassium, and magnesium, contributing to heart health and sustained energy.
Digestion Process
High in both protein and fiber, Red Lobia has a very low glycemic index. It digests slowly, promoting stable blood sugar levels, prolonged satiety, and healthy digestion. Soaking before cooking significantly reduces compounds that can cause gas, enhancing its digestibility.
Cooking Method
Requires soaking for 4-6 hours (or overnight) to reduce cooking time. The quick-cooking method involves a rapid boil for 2-3 minutes, followed by an hour of soaking. Cook soaked beans in fresh water or broth (ratio ~1:3) for 45-60 minutes until tender. It is commonly prepared as a savory salan (Lobia Salan), in rice dishes (Lobia Pulao), or in salads.
Customer Benefits
A cost-effective, nutrient-dense foundation for countless family meals. Its ability to thicken gravies and create a creamy texture makes it ideal for robust curries. It is a popular choice for festive dishes and daily comfort food, offering substantial nutrition, especially in vegetarian diets.
Quality Assurance
Rigorously sorted to ensure uniform size, color, and minimal broken beans or foreign matter. Moisture content is kept low (below 12%) for optimal storage. Each batch is checked for purity and cooking quality to ensure consistent performance.
